The Geology Lesson

Calcite petrified globe 42 x 30 x 30 cm (16.5 x 11.8 x 11.8 in.)

Laid out by the artist for a whole year (the time it takes for our planet to revolve) in a cave under the flow of water naturally laden with calcite, this globe has gradually become covered with a shimmering petrifying layer. Combining geography and geology, the work challenges our perception of time, and seems to have frozen a recartographed state of the world.
